Sie ist knallhart, intelligent, attraktiv, liebenswert und eine der glaubwürdigsten fiktiven Privatdetektive überhaupt: V.I. Warshawski – leider gibt es von ihr keine deutschsprachigen Hörbücher. Zwölfmal hat V.I. bereits in Chicago ermittelt, „Burn Marks“ (1990) ist mein Favorit. „Vic“ hilft ihrer alkoholkranken Tante, deren schäbige Unterkunft niedergebrannt ist. Sie sucht den Brandstifter, taucht in die Welt der Obdachlosen und politischer Mauscheleien ein. Wie immer ist V.I.'s Mut gepaart mit amüsantem Sarkasmus, wie immer sind ihre Freundin Lottie, ihr Nachbar Mr. Contreras und die beiden Hunde dabei. Kathy Bates lebt die spannende Geschichte und haucht jeder Figur viel Charakter ein. Sie spielt mit etlichen Akzenten, ohne dabei zu überziehen.
